See it on The Indeks MapThe Champions League group stage saves its loudest fixture for Tuesday night. Paris Saint-Germain host Barcelona at the Parc des Princes, kickoff at 20:00 BST, with both sides unbeaten on six points. Fixtures between these two have a habit of becoming the story of the round, and this one arrives with both teams in the form to justify it.
The numbers explain the billing. Between them, PSG and Barcelona have scored 19 goals in four Champions League games this season. PSG warmed up for this by winning 4-2 at Manchester City, a result that travels. Barcelona arrive with nine wins from nine in La Liga, a perfect domestic start that has held up week after week.
Which is also what makes the night a genuine test rather than a showcase. Barcelona's run has been built against Spanish opposition, and Paris away is a different weight of opponent. PSG, for their part, have to show that the City result was a level they can repeat against the form team in Spain, not a one night spike in Manchester.
Two perfect records cannot both survive Tuesday, and the loser does not just drop points. They hand the group, and the early argument about who the team to beat in Europe is, to the other dressing room. That is a lot riding on a group game in October, and it is why this one leads the round.
